		<description>Bob,
When I was first taught these chords, I learned the 5th string roots just as you have shown, but the 6th string roots were a little different. The minor 7th and the dom7 also included the 5th on the 5th string as well as the barre went clear through to the 1st string. You have shown those notes muted, so I was wondering if there was some advantage here, or is it no big deal?
Thanks,
Jim</description>

		<description>Bob,

This is very helpful. It got me thinking... maybe I missed it, but do you have a table of common chord progressions for various music styles. Maybe adding a column that lists the common scales used for the type of music would make a very helpful reference.

Regards,

		<description>Hi Sid,

If you are working on barre chords then these forms are the next step up. Even though they seem really difficult they do get easier with practice.

The are multiple reasons for learning these fingerings.

1. A 7th chord only needs 4 notes ( 1, 3, 5 and 7). Learning these chords in their simplest form (note wise) will help as you learn to manipulate the numbers.

Look at the diagram for the major 7th chord and you will see the only difference between the major 7 and dominant 7 is the b7 in the dominant chord.

As you work through MSC and these chords you will notice that knowing the number locations of notes is very important. There are certain guidelines that you will follow to help you create other chords and scales by changing the numbers (like flatting the 7th).

2. These chords have a lighter sound that barre chords. That's because they use less notes. The barre chord minor 7 you were describing contains duplicate notes (2 roots and 2 fifths.

This lighter sound is sometimes more useful that a full barre chord. Also, the duplicate notes can be replaced with other tones like the 9th, etc.

3. The fingering practice will make you a more accurate, better player. The more control you have the better you can play not only chords but soling as well.

Hang in there. I have some video coming on these chords and a few other things as well.

Looks like the form screwed up my chord diagram formatting.

		<description>Hi Bob,

When I'm not working my way through MSC, barre chords are something else that I'm working on. This report is a bit beyond me at the moment. I've practiced 7, m7 and maj7 barre chords, and one thing that adds to my confusion is that the m7 barre chords I've practiced are different (and easier) than the ones in your report ie

6th 5th
1 1111 x1 1 1
                                                2
 3 3

Is there a particular reason why you use your finger-twisters (other than to make them as difficult as the Dom7 and Min 7b5) I had a quick go at them and I think I've done myself a serious injury :-)

Maybe, one day I'll get there.

		<description>Hi Guys,

Thanks for the heads up. There was some weird stuff in there. Looks like someone hacked into the site but I have it fixed now.

		<description>Bob,

I can only find the comments to the report on 7th chords. How do I see the actual report?
